Wegovy

Wegovy (semaglutide) is an FDA-approved, prescription-only medication developed for long-term weight management in adults with obesity or overweight conditions accompanied by weight-related health issues such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, or high cholesterol.

Wegovy works by mimicking the natural hormone GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1), which helps regulate appetite, increase satiety, and slow gastric emptying. This mechanism leads to reduced calorie intake, better control over eating behavior, and clinically significant, sustainable weight loss.

The treatment is administered once weekly using pre-filled FlexTouch pens, with a stepwise dose escalation protocol designed to enhance tolerability and minimize gastrointestinal side effects:

• Weeks 1–4: 0.25mg

• Weeks 5–8: 0.5mg

• Weeks 9–12: 1mg

• Weeks 13–16: 1.7mg

• Week 17 onward: 2.4mg (maintenance dose)

Wegovy is intended as part of a comprehensive treatment plan that includes a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
